Sourcing Problems and Streamlining Technology Solutions

My journey in technology has been an interesting one. Starting in 1998, I studied Computer Information Systems as a Co-operative learning student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

My roles have included designing and implementing entire infrastructures for accounting systems with all aspects of design and implementation. I have developed software and interfaces between back-office ERP systems and front-office sales and quote-to-cash systems. I have supported and maintained many systems and trained users and administrators to use and care for these same systems. In all my experience I have never lost sight of the fact that technology supports business. The needs of the people involved in technology systems as well as their styles of work and duties are the most important considerations. When using technology to support business processes, keeping the processes secure and efficient, the details come back to where the rubber meets the road. Much of the benefit of computer systems comes at the interface between people and data.

I have since completed my Bachelor of Information Technology in August of 2003 and I have worked in the technology industry ever since.

My most current work at Lehigh Hanson afforded me the opportunities to work closely with accounting teams to tailor a solution to their approvals process. I quickly learned that because of the industry demands and the size and reach of our organization, there was no standard software solution that would work. By listening to the key people involved in the process and their reasons for doing their work in the way they do, we were able to develop a solution with minimal cost that met their needs. This was all done within the current systems we already had so the side benefit of preventing the growth of our supported software portfolio saved money on support and maintenance costs in the end. I believe that there is a solution to every problem and there are always opportunities to do more with less.

Whatever your industry and whatever your needs, my experience and breadth of exposure to technologies and process methods will serve where textbook solutions fail. I source problems and streamline technology solutions.
